MANILA—The police arrested a taxi driver who robbed an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) from Hong Kong after she arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) general manager Ed Monreal identified the suspect as Orestes Quizon, 48, and a driver of the Shammah taxi, with plate number UVV 570.

The MIAA chief also ordered the Shammah taxi be banned from NAIA due to the robbery.

Monreal said the suspect was arrested by the Las Pinas Police during follow-up operations after he robbed his passenger, OFW Karen Mitscheck.

He said the robbery took place at around 11:20 am on April 17 just a few minutes away from the NAIA Terminal 2.

Mitschek told investigators that while she was on board the taxi a hundred meters away from the NAIA Terminal 2, Quizon declared the holdup.

She said the suspect threatened to shoot her if she made any noise or refused to give her bags at gunpoint, Monreal said.

The victim added that she begged for her life and told the suspect not to kill her as she had just arrived and was looking forward to seeing her child. This prompted the suspect to leave her along C5 road extension after the robbery.

Mitschek said she got off the taxi, which sped off carting away all her belongings. The suspect also took the passenger slip given by the dispatcher at the terminal bearing the plate number of the taxi.

Intelligence officers later found the Shammah taxi abandoned near the airport and later arrested the suspect.
