NEARLY 200 students of the Culinary Arts Centre (CAC) went up the stage at the Regal Hong Kong Hotel on May 24 to get their medals and certificates as the school marked its 20th graduation ceremony.

Jimmy L. Dator, Culinary Arts Centre administrator, urged the graduates to blaze new paths to a better future with the newly-acquired skills and techniques they learned from school.
I congratulate you. I salute you and admire you for the wisdom of your decision to enroll and complete varied courses in culinary arts which I firmly believe have prepared and afforded you with upgraded and updated knowledge and sharpened skills in culinary arts in meeting the growing
challenges of life,” Dator said in his graduation address.

“May you therefore serve as inspiration to all OFWs not just here in Hong Kong but throughout the world. I am delighted to share with you that the center has recorded another bumper crop of graduates and awardees this year,” he said. Deputy Consul General Christian De Jesus and Vice Consul Timmy Guzman-Quintin graced the occasion, which was held at the Regal Ballroom of the Regal Hong Kong Hotel in Causeway Bay.

The 189 graduates finished courses on such as Asian and Western Cooking, Bakery Management, Meat processing, Cakes and Icings, HRM-Fruit and Vegetable Carving, and Chinese and Korean
Cuisines. Student Merlene A. Moran was recognized as the most outstanding student of
the year for her skills in basic, advanced, and professional baking, Asian and Western cooking, Meat Processing, Cakes&Icing, and HRM.

“The truth is we even see a rise in the number of our male enrollees and graduates. Today, we have four of the graduating with honors,” Dator said. “They are astig but gentle. Macho but domesticated,” he added. One  of the male graduates was Leopoldo J. Lazatin, who also received a gold medal for Asian and Western Cooking. “When we came in the door and when I saw your smiling faces, your demeanor, how professional you look, although we have not met, I felt so inspired and proud as a Filipino and as a member of the Philippine Consulate General,” said De Jesus. “It’s not a small task, what you have accomplished and you should be proud of it. And with that pride of having accomplished something, also goes responsibility,” he added.
Dator urged the graduates to take up further studies to succeed in life.
