Ilonggo group joins CNY parade in Tsim Sha Tsui

A Filipino dance group was set to join the Chinese New Year parade in Tsim Sha Tsui on February 8, the Philippine Consulate General (PCG) said.

The PCG said the Tribu Salognon of the Jaro National High School, which won in the Dinagyang Festival 2016, was scheduled to perform at the Cathay Pacific International Chinese New Year Night Parade.

The parade was set to be held from 8 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. on February 8 at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre (HKCC) Piazza in Tsim Sha Tsui.

The event featured other international performing groups in vibrant costumes and colorful parade floats.

It was set to start at the HKCC Piazza before proceeding to the major roads in Tsim Sha Tsui and ended at the junction of Nathan and Salisbury Roads.

The parade has been sponsored by Cathay Pacific for the last 18 years and is one of the most anticipated annual events in the city.

Its theme for this year was “Playground of the World. Party of the Year” and will include floats and performances by groups from Hong Kong and abroad.

Its highlights include 13 illuminated floats, stilt walkers, drummers, cheerleaders, and cultural dancers.

The local performers also included traditional dragon and lion dances, percussion bands, ballet, and modern dances.

Tribu Salognon dethroned Tribu Panayanon of Iloilo City National High School in the Ati Tribes Competition of this year’s Dinagyang Festival on Sunday, January 24.

The dance group is also scheduled to perfom in Tai Po on February 9 and in Wan Chai the following day.
