NEW Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) officer Daisy F. Furaque is prepared to take on challenges while she is posted here in Hong Kong.
In an interview with Hong Kong News, Furaque said she was not able to personally prepare for her assignment, but she came prepared nevertheless. “This is my first foreign assignment… Hindi ako nakapag- prepare personally kasi ang dami rin work. I was told this was a hard post, but for me, go lang ng go,” she said.
Furaque, a former overseas Filipino worker (OFW) in Singapore from 1996 to 1998, said she received sufficient training from the Department of Foreign Affairs and OWWA.
“Pagdating dito, trabaho kaagad. That was Dec. 8, Thursday, so the following day walang pasok kaya maraming tao. Walang pahinga, diretso trabaho,” she said.
Furaque said she is prepared to work hard and handle OFW issues hands on.
“I expect I will be faced with a lot of work… I’m ready to face voluminous work. I was told nga to be ready not to eat lunch on time or go home after official time off,” she said with a smile.
Furaque said she already experienced going home at 10 p.m. “Physically, ang preparation ko ay nagbaon ako ng vitamins. And now I’m learning the Hong Kong employment ordinance… I have to learn it by heart,” she said.
Furaque was formerly part of the legal service of the Labor Department before transferring to OWWA in 2004. She was program officer for the OWWA Region IV-B, covering Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan.
