Eastern Magistrates' Court in Sai Wan Ho

A 30-year-old Filipina was sentenced to two months imprisonment on Thursday after she stole HK$300 from her employer.

R. P. Smith pleaded guilty to the theft charge lodged against her before Magistrate Bina Chainrai at the Eastern Courts.

Her employer reported her to the police on Oct. 19 after three of the eleven marked HK$100 banknotes in his wallet disappeared and were recovered in Smith’s wallet.

Smith was found to have taken the money after checking closed-circuit (CCTV) footage.

The defendant’s litigator explained that she had gotten the money out of need. Smith’s six-year-old daughter had to undergo therapy after suffering from physical abuse from her younger sister.

The lawyer added Smith pleaded for leniency so she could return to the Philippines as soon as possible for her child.
