A week after a Filipino woman jumped to her death in Lai Chi Kok, another Filipino domestic worker died in the same district on Monday (July 22) in an apparent suicide.

A police spokesman said the helper, with initials J.T. and from Candelaria, Quezon, died on the spot at No. 1 Po Lun Street in Lai Chi Kok after apparently jumping from her employer’s high-rise flat.

“The initial investigation showed that there was no suspicious element (in her death). She supposedly had some financial problems,” the spokesman said.

He said a security officer of the residential block reported the incident to the police at around 5 p.m. on July 22.

“The subject is 40 years old and is a Filipina. She was found on the podium of the building and we are treating this as a case of a person who had fallen from height,” the police spokesman said.

“An emergency response team arrived but she was certified dead at the scene,” he added.

The spokesman said the police did not find any suicide note but their initial investigation showed that the helper had “some monetary problems.”

On July 15, a 31-year-old Filipino domestic worker from Antique also died in an apparent suicide in another residential complex in Lai Chi Kok.

The woman jumped to her death from the flat of her employer at the Mei Foo Sun Chuen private housing estate. Her remains are set to be repatriated back to the Philippines tomorrow (July 26).
