Hongkongers can expect colder weather this weekend with the temperature sliding down to 12 degrees Celsius this Sunday, according to the Hong Kong Observatory (HKO).

The HKO said it will be “windy with temperatures falling significantly” in the next couple of days due to the winter monsoon affecting southern China.

“It will be windy and become cold appreciably over the region. Under the influence of the intense winter monsoon, cold weather will persist with rain over Guangdong during the weekend and most of next week,” the Observatory said.

“The winter monsoon affecting southern China will strengthen in the next couple of days. Besides, the tropical cyclone to the east of the Philippines will enter the South China Sea over the weekend and then move across the southern part of the South China Sea,” it added.

The HKO said the temperature tomorrow (December 28) would range from 16 degrees to 19 degrees Celsius, 13 to 16 degrees Celsius on Saturday (December 29), and 12 to 15 degrees Celsius on Sunday (December 30).

On Monday (December 31) and New Year’s Day (January 1), HK temperatures will range from 11 degrees to 14 degrees Celsius, the Observatory.

It will be “cloudy and cold with one or two rain patches” on the last day of the year and “cloudy and cold with a few rain patches” on the first day of 2019, it added.
