Health authorities confirmed eight new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) Tuesday, with two being foreign domestic workers.

This brings the total number cases in Hong Kong to 5,047.

The two female workers were among the three cases with links to previously infected individuals. Case 5041, stayed in Block 1, Venice Gardens in Tuen Mun. Case 5043 stayed in Block A, Fok Lin Building in Hung Hom.

A spokesperson for the Department of Health told Hong Kong News that the domestic workers worked for previously confirmed cases and that they were sent to the hospital from the quarantine centers.

The other local case is a 14-year old girl from Wong Tai Sin who showed symptoms.

Tuesday followed the recent trend of seeing more imported cases than local ones, with five passengers from India yielding positive COVID-19 test results. One is a seafarer who landed in Hong Kong via Emirates flight EK384.

The other four flew in via Air India flight AI310 on Sept. 11. Flights from the airline have been banned anew from entering Hong Kong on Sunday until Oct. 3, after several of its passengers tested positive for COVID-19 infection.
