The 54-year-old Filipino domestic worker who was locked out of her employer’s flat in Kowloon Tong is now under the care of the Philippine Consulate General.

Welfare Attache Virsie Tamayao said this afternoon that Lorna E.C., who is from Capiz, went to the consulate this lunchtime and had decided to finally leave her employer after the alleged abuses that she suffered.

“Tinawagan namin ang kanyang amo para iinform siya pero binabaan kami ng telepono,” Tamayao said.

“Gusto sana namin sabihan siya para hindi na magreport o magsabi na nag-abscond yung worker natin,” she added.

She said the PCG would now inform the Immigration Department that Lorna was now in the consulate’s care.

Lorna’s pictures went viral online after she was locked out of her employer’s flat on Friday and she had to sleep on the hallway.

She was locked out after she threw out at the trash at 4 a.m. She said she was only able to get back in at 9 a.m. and that this was not the first time that this happened.

Her employer allegedly would also take custody of her mobile phone when she was home and give it to her only on her day off. She also allegedly was not given enough food.

Lorna said her employer, accusing her of wrongdoing, had given her a termination letter which served as her one-month notice.

She said she had wanted to finish the one-month period, which ends next month, so as not to endanger her benefits but later decided to leave her employer due to the abuses she suffered.

Tamayao said Lorna would be staying at the shelter of the Philippine Overseas Labor Office before fetching her belongings from her ex-employer’s flat.
