THE Hong Kong police were able to confirm that a Canon camera pawned allegedly by a Filipino domestic worker in Tai Hang belonged to her employer.

Prosecutors told Eastern Magistrates’ Courts Presiding Magistrate Peter Law that a Canon EOS 700D camera and one camera lens belonged to the employer of Emily M.P.

The Filipina is currently detained in prison after she was accused by her employer of stealing a pair of diamond earrings, a Rolex watch, the Canon EOS 700D camera, one camera lens, and a necklace.

“Item number 3—the camera and the lens—could be identified by the alleged victim,” the prosecutor told Judge Law on July 9.

She said that the missing pair of diamond earrings and the necklace had already been sold by the pawnshop. However, the prosecutor said the serial number of the missing Rolex watch did not match the serial number of the Rolex watch in the pawnshop.

The alleged victim provided the serial number but it was different from the one recovered from the pawnshop, the prosecutor said.

“The police will conduct further inquiries to see if (the missing Rolex watch) was pawned in another pawnshop,” she added.

Judge Law adjourned the case to August 6 and Emily was remanded in police custody since she did not ask that she be allowed to post bail.

The police arrested the domestic worker after her employer accused her of stealing $67,000 worth of valuables, including a Rolex watch.

The thefts allegedly happened between Sept. 21, 2017 and April 22, 2018 in her employers’ flat at Block 2, Illumination Terrace, 5-7 Tai Hang Road, Tai Hang, Hong Kong Island.

A government lawyer earlier told Judge Law that the suspect admitted to committing the crime during the police interrogation. He added that investigators also found three pawnshop tickets in her possession.

However, Judge Law has yet to formally ask Emily if she was pleading guilty or not to the crime and he is still waiting for the results of the police investigation.
