It will be cold this coming weekend for Hong Kong with temperatures expected to go down to as low as 12 degrees Celsius on Sunday, the Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) said.

The HKO said the temperature would range from 12 to 15 degrees Celsius on Sunday, when majority of foreign domestic workers have their day off.

“Cloudy with a few rain patches. Becoming cold at night,” the HKO said in its forecast for Sunday.

On Monday, temperatures were also expected to range from 12 to 15 degrees Celsius.

“Temperatures will drop significantly over the region on Friday. An intense northeast monsoon will persist over Guangdong early next week,” the Observatory said.

“Meanwhile, under the influence of a broad band of rain-bearing clouds, it will become cold and rainy over the region,” it added.

The HKO said temperatures will be “dropping significantly on Friday,” when the temperature could go down to 17 degrees Celsius.

“A fresh easterly airstream will continue to affect the coast of Guangdong tomorrow (Thursday). A cold front is expected to move across the south China coast tomorrow overnight,” the Observatory said.

Winter usually begins in Hong Kong in mid-December.
