HK$750,000 worth of dried shark fins from PH seized

Hong Kong Customs seized over a tonne of suspected dried shark fins of endangered species estimated to cost around HK$750,000 upon its arrival at the airport on Thursday.

In a statement Friday, the government said Customs officers inspected an air consignment from the Philippines and found the batch of shark fins inside.

The case was handed over to the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department for follow-up.

The Protection of Endangered Species of Animals and Plants Ordinance states any person found guilty of importing or exporting an endangered species without a license is liable to a maximum fine of HK$10 million and imprisonment for 10 years.
