An Indonesian domestic worker was killed this morning after a tree branch fell on her in Sau Mau Ping, local media reported.

According to the news website of the Oriental Daily, a Chinese-language newspaper, the incident happened at around 7:29 a.m. near a bus stop along the new Clear Water Bay Road near Lee Hang House.

One of the branches of an Indian oak tree suddenly broke and fell on the Indonesian worker’s head as she was passing by. The branch was reportedly four meters long and 15 centimeters thick.

The worker was brought to a hospital but doctors there declared her dead at 7:53 a.m. She was reportedly 46 years old and had been working here in Hong Kong for more than 10 years.

The Indonesian Consulate General had been informed about the incident while firemen cut the remaining branches that were considered dangerous.

Hong Kong’s Tree Management Office and the Housing Department are checking the other trees in the area to determine if they also pose a danger to pedestrians and commuters.
