Number of jailed Pinoys down

THE number of Filipinos jailed in Hong Kong has decreased, the latest prison visit made by the officials of the Philippine Consulate General indicated.

Vice Consul Fatima Guzman Quintin told Hong Kong News that based on their last prison visits in June, they found that there were 66 Filipinos in prison, lower than the 86 recorded as of the end of 2014.

“In the first quarter [of 2015], there were 68 Filipinos in jail here,” she said. “We are thankful siyempre [na bumababa ang number of Filipinos in jail].”

Hong Kong News reported in 2013 that there were 129 Filipinos in various prison facilities in the territory. The cases against Filipinos in jail then included overstaying,
and drug-trafficking, among others.
