THE Observatory has hoisted the Signal No. 1 warning as a tropical depression is expected to move closer to Hong Kong later today.

In its latest advisory, the Observatory said the tropical depression will “skirt more than 300 kilometres to the southwest of Hong Kong.”

The Observatory also warned that there will be short periods of squalls in the city and seas will be rough.

Members of the public were told to stay away from the shoreline.

It added that it will continue to monitor the local wind conditions to consider issuing a signal change.
