THE Philippine Consulate General has confirmed that a worker who fell to death while dismantling one of the carnival rides at the Central Harbourfront was a Filipino.

Danilo Baldon of the Assistance to Nationals Section accompanied the sibling of the 27-year-old Filipino man, surnamed Padilla, to the Victoria Mortuary on Thursday morning.

The brother came from Abu Dhabi and would be accompanying the remains of the victim when they would be repatriated.

Baldon said the worker arrived in December, and was here for a three-month contract. Padilla’s brother-in-law is also among the workers dismantling the AIA Carnival in Central.

“The police declared in their report that the cause of death was industrial accident,” he said, adding that the accident happened at around 10 a.m. on Wednesday.

Baldon added that the worker’s family will be receiving assistance from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) as the victim was registered in Manila.
