Bello: OWWA to shoulder costs of returning OFWs’ quarantine places
The Overseas Workers’ Welfare Administration (OWWA) will bear the expenses of quarantine accommodations of returning migrant Filipino workers while the travel ban is in effect, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello said Wednesday.
Bello, in a message to Hong Kong News, said returning OFWs will be quarantined in facilities in Clark, Pampanga.
Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte’s order to ban foreign travelers from 20 countries and territories took effect early Wednesday morning.
Duterte ordered the ban in light of a more transmissible variant of the coronavirus detected in those regions.
Filipino citizens were exempt from the ban, but they have to undergo quarantine for 14 days notwithstanding a negative RT-PCR test result.
