FDH killed in Tai Po car accident

A 55-year-old Filipino domestic worker died in a traffic accident in the New Territories last night (October 28).

The police said the helper was brought to the Prince of Wales hospital after a white car hit her while she was crossing the street in Tai Po. She died at the Prince of Wales hospital this morning.

Welfare Attache Virsie Tamayao said the Philippine Consulate General had already informed the helper’s family about what happened and that she also had a cousin working here in Hong Kong.

“At about 11 p.m. last night, a private car driven by a 38-year-old man was travelling along Ting Kok Road towards Tai Mei Tuk,” a police statement said.

“When approaching Shuen Wan Lei Uk, it reportedly knocked down the 55-year-old woman who was crossing the road,” it added.

The woman had injuries in the head, arms, hips, and legs and was unconscious when she was brought to the Prince of Wales Hospital. The police said she was certified dead at 6:56 a.m. today (October 29).

An investigation by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, New Territories North is underway.

“Anyone who witnessed the accident or has any information to offer is urged to contact the investigating officers at 3661-3818 or 3661-3819,” the police said.
