A Filipino domestic worker tried to kill herself in Sheung Shui yesterday morning, the Hong Kong Police said.

A police spokesperson said the worker hanged herself inside the toilet of her employer’s home but her 39-year-old male employer found her in time to save her.

“She’s still alive,” the spokesperson said. “This is a case of attempted suicide.”

He said the incident happened at around 8:11 a.m. on Wednesday. According to local media reports, the worker’s employer was calling for the worker but got no reply inside his luxury villa at The Green along Fan Kam Road, Sheung Shui, New Territories.

When he checked the toilet, he found the domestic worker had hanged herself using “some electric cables,” the police spokesman said.

“He brought her down and she was taken to the North District Hospital for medical treatment. There was no suicide note found,” he said.

“We’re still trying to find out the reason behind her attempt to kill herself,” the police spokesman added.
