The government on early Monday morning ended the lockdown in an area in Jordan where all residents were ordered tested for the coronavirus.

Of the more than 7,000 who underwent testing, 13 confirmed cases were detected.

The area, home to many of Hong Kong’s ethnic minorities, was cordoned off early Saturday morning amid a rise in Covid-19 cases in nearby blocks.

Secretary for Food and Health Sophia Chan revoked the restrictions on Monday midnight. Officials earlier said they wanted to lift the lockdown within 48 hours.

In a statement, the government said it visited 3,650 households to usher them into testing but 473 of them had no response.

“Among these households, some live in buildings in the ‘restricted area’ which have not been evacuated. Households with confirmed cases or undergoing quarantine may also be included. Some units are possibly vacant,” the statement said.

People who have stayed for more than two hours in the restricted area—bordered by Woosung St. to its east, Nanking St. to its south, Battery St. to its west and Kansu St. to its north—in the last 14 days will still have to get tested.

Those who violate the “restriction-testing declaration” order may pay a fine of HK$25,000 and six months imprisonment.
