The Hong Kong police have arrested a 30-year-old man for planting needles on bus seats that caused concern among bus passengers.

Police Supt. Chan Yan said the suspect was involved in at least three of the six incidents of needles being planted on KMB buses since Wednesday.

“According to the information we obtained, the motive of the culprit may be related to his grievances about the bus services. He mentioned some buses had bypassed the bus stop so that he can’t catch the bus,” Chan said in a media briefing this afternoon.

He said police investigators were not dismissing the possibility that other individuals or copycats were behind the other cases of needles being planted on KMB buses. There were also incidents of bus seats being slashed.

“At this moment, we won’t exclude any possibility. Our active investigation is still in progress. We do not exclude the possibility that we will have further arrest action,” Chan said.

At least two passengers had been injured in these incidents that began on Wednesday night. The arrested suspect faces charges of wounding, the police said.
