MTR system remains closed

The MTR rail system, inclduing the Airport Express, remained closed this morning (October 5) due to anti-government protests last night.

The MTR said it closed down all of its rail lines after violence erupted as protesters lashed against the decision of the government to prohibit the use of face masks in protests.

“After conducting an assessment jointly with the Police and other relevant government departments, all MTR services covering the Heavy Rail including Airport Express, Light Rail and MTR bus cannot be resumed this morning (5 October),” the MTR said.

“After the outbreak of violence at multiple districts, maintenance staff has to make sure of their own safety before they could travel to the damaged stations to inspect and assess the extent of damages at our stations, and to carry out repair works,” it said.

” We will review all relevant circumstances later on today. Any update on the service arrangement will be announced as soon as possible, ” it added.

Citybus also said that it route B3M is suspended this morning while 2 routes (B3 and B3X) have traffic diversion. Thirteen routes— 2, 8H, 18X, 77, 82, 85, 99, 102, 606, 606A, 682, 682P, A12—were diverted earlier but they are now back to normal.
