THE Observatory has hoisted the T8 warning signal at 5:30 a.m as severe tropical storm Pakhar continues to move closer to Hong Kong.

“At 6 a.m., Severe Tropical Storm Pakhar was centred about 120 kilometres south-southwest of Hong Kong (near 21.3 degrees north 113.9 degrees east) and is forecast to move northwest at about 30 kilometres per hour towards the west of the Pearl River Estuary,” the Observatory said in its latest bulletin.

The forecast track of Pakhar indicated that it will be closest to the city in the next few hours.

The chance of hoisting the T10 signal was low, the Observatory added.

Rainbands associated with Pakhar are bringing frequent heavy rain and squalls to Hong Kong.
