A 37-year-old Filipino domestic worker died after she hanged herself in Tai Kok Tsui over the weekend, the police said.

The worker was found hanging inside her room in the flat of her employer at 11 Hoi Fai Road on Saturday (Nov. 2), said a Police Public Relations Branch spokesman.

“The worker was Filipino. Her name was Elen,” the spokesman said in an interview.

He said the police received a call from the domestic worker’s employer at around 10:35 a.m.

“She found the domestic worker had hanged herself with a towel inside her room,” the spokesman said.

He said investigators and an emergency response team arrived at the scene and brought the worker to the Kwong Wah hospital in Yau Ma Tei.

“They took her down but she was already unconscious when she was taken to the hospital. She died there at 11:10 a.m., ” the spokesman said.

He said there was no suicide note found and an autopsy would be conducted on the remains of the worker to determine the cause of death.

He added that the initial investigation showed that there was nothing suspicious in the worker’s death and the police was treating the case as a suicide.
