The Filipina migrant worker who died after she was found unconsciously floating in a pool Sunday had a family history of heart ailments, her aunt said Thursday.

Domestic worker May El Oroceo dispelled rumors about the death of her 28-year-old niece, Andrelyn Peralta Onera. Reports have earlier claimed that Onera had slipped and hit her head, among other theories that spread on social media.

Oroceo said she had talked to Onera’s attending doctor who reportedly said that her heart likely stopped beating while she was in the pool.

“Kaya ko nga tinanong ‘yung mama niya na kung may history kami sa heart failure. Ang sabi ng mama niya, ‘yung lolo pala namin,” Oroceo told Hong Kong News in an interview Thursday.

Onera’s aunt added that the young worker’s mother also had non-severe heart issues.

“Baka may naramdaman [si Andrelyn] na nakirot ‘yung puso niya, pero hindi lang niya nasabi kasi hindi lang niya napa-check up,” she added.

Onera was fond of floating in the water, her aunt explained. When she was found unconscious, she was being revived for 30 minutes through cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), until she returned with a faint heartbeat.

She also berated theories about possible foul play in the incident. However, Oroceo said she would want to check the close-circuit television (CCTV) footage to check what happened in the pool.

Onera had passed away around 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 23. Oroceo knew of her niece’s demise after receiving a call from Onera’s employer, who rushed to the hospital.

Oroceo was not able to see Onera moments before her death because she was also occupied with her domestic worker duties, but her employer had accompanied her to the hospital as soon as they found out about Onera’s passing.

The late domestic worker is survived by her three half-siblings, as well as her son who was to turn 12 on Sunday, Sept. 27.
