A 40-year-old Filipino woman was killed last night (April 10) during a fight with man who identified himself as her husband in Kowloon City.

An officer of the Philippine Consulate General (PCG) said the victim had the initials A.C.

A consulate official asked that her identity be withheld until her family in the Philippines is formally informed of her death.

The PCG is also trying to confirm reports that she was a former domestic helper.

“Naghihintay din kami ng update sa pulis para makakuha ng contact sa kanyang next of kin sa Pilipinas,” said the PCG officer, who asked not be identified.

According to a government statement, the police received a report from a 37-year-old man that he killed his 40-year-old wife inside a unit on Pang Ching Street in To Kwa Wan.

Local media reports identified the suspect as a Gambian and an asylum seeker here in Hong Kong.

“Police officers sped to the scene and found the 40-year-old woman lying unconsciously on a bed,” the statement said.

The woman had injuries in her head and hands and she was certified dead at scene, it added. The Filipina had reportedly been dead for 12 to 24 hours.

The police said its initial investigation showed that the man fought with the 40-year-old woman on Wednesday morning.

The man was arrested for murder and is being detained for further enquiries. Post-mortem examinations will be conducted later to ascertain the cause of death of the deceased, the police said.

It added that District Crime Squad of Kowloon City District was conducting the investigation.
