A former domestic helper has committed to return to Hong Kong to testify in the rape case against her employer.

Officials from the Philippine Consulate General confirmed to Hong Kong News that the victim, who had gone home to the Philippines, was constantly communicating with them and assured them that she would give evidence in court.

The Court of First Instance will hear the case in May 2017.

“We are communicating with her thru WhatsApp, and she said she will be coming back here,” said a PCG official, who asked not to be identified.

The employer allegedly raped the Filipina in his home in Tuen Mun in September 2015. The employer’s wife and two-year-old child were said to be out of the house when the incident took place.

Upon the wife’s return, the domestic worker told her about the rape. The wife then reported the incident to the police. The wife had reportedly left her husband since then.

It was the Filipina’s first employment contract in Hong Kong. She has a seven-year-old daughter in the Philippines.

The Filipina took refuge at a shelter and the PCG found her another employer, but she resigned from her job and decided to return to the Philippines in September.

The Hong Kong Police have sought the assistance of the PCG to locate the Filipina’s whereabouts in the Philippines so that she could come back to Hong Kong to testify.
