Presscon on COVID-19 cases

The Philippine Consulate General confirmed that a Filipina domestic worker who went to Hong Kong from the Philippines on March 11 has tested positive for COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus.

She also transited via Taipei, however and remained asymptomatic until March 11. She is the sixth Filipina domestic worker who contracted the novel coronavirus overall. Four of those who tested positive for the COVID-10 have been released from the hospital.

Dr Chuang Shuk-kwan, Communicable Disease Branch Head of the Centre for Health Protection, said in a press conference on March 20 that the domestic worker went to the Prince of Wales after she started to feel some of the symptoms on March 13.

“Another case – the domestic helper who just arrived from the Philippines, she arrived on the 11th of March, she started to have runny nose, she didn’t feel well starting March 13. She went to the Prince of Wales,” Chuang said.

She added that they have not heard “any problem about the employer,” of the domestic helper but he or she will have to be quarantined.

“We have not heard any problem about the employer, but we have to contact the employer for home quarantine. If there are any problems or symptoms, they will have to be tested,” she said.

The domestic worker is one of the 46 cases of COVID-19 patients today, the biggest number of cases reported in one day. There are at least 256 cases of COVID-19 infection in Hong Kong, with four deaths.
