Pinoy tagged in US$85k theft in airport

A Filipino baggage handler at the Hong Kong international airport was accused
of being part of the group that stole US$85,000 from a Chinese businessman.
The Filipino, with initials A.V.B, pleaded not guilty after he was charged with
theft after he and two other airport employees, allegedly stole the hand-carry
luggage of businessman Yu Gang after he arrived at the airport in April 2013.

“I was putting my check-in luggage in my trolley and I put (the missing bag)
beside the trolley. Since there were many luggage, I may have forgotten about it,” Yu told the court. He arrived at the Chek Lap Kok International Airport from Johannesburg on April 10, 2013 when he forgot his hand-carry
luggage at the arrival hall. The bag contained US$100 bills (700 pieces) and $50 notes (100 pieces) and his clothes. The money was from his electronics
business and was not insured. When he noticed that his hand-carry luggage was
missing, he went back to the arrival hall to check but it was gone.
Yu reported the incident to the lost and found section of the airport and later to the police.

The prosecutor said the Filipino was part of a team of three whose duty was to
secure unclaimed luggage at the airport. At around 2 p.m. on April 10, 2013, a
colleague of the Filipino surnamed Leung recovered Go’s unclaimed bag near Belt 11. Leung, the Filipino and their colleague allegedly shared the loot later before throwing away Yu’s luggage.
