Two Pinoy mountaineers survive Nepal quake

TWO Filipino mountaineers survived the 7.8 magnitude earthquake in Nepal that left at least more than 4,000 people dead.

Foreign Affairs spokesman Charles Jose identified the Filipinos as Jessica Ann Nicole Ramirez and Jose Francisco Oracion.

Jose said the two had checked in at Khwopa Guest House in Bhaktapur, Kathmandu, but are now in Durbar Square for safety.

The Philippine Embassy in New Delhi is sending a team to Nepal to assist the two Filipinos, who were among the mountaineers at Base Camp of Mt. Everest when the temblor struck, Jose said. There are less than 200 Filipinos in Nepal.

Officials described the earthquake as the worst disaster to hit the Himalayan nation in more than 80 years. Offers of help have poured in from governments around the world.
