Filipino DW from the US and 13 FDWs from PHL reported positive with Covid-19

One Filipino domestic worker from the USA was tested positive for Covid-19 and 13 other Filipino domestic workers from the Philippines out of 38 cases of Covid-19 reported yesterday, Jan. 5, Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of Department of Health (DH) of Hong Kong.

As of yesterday, Hong Kong has recorded a total of 12 799 cases tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 virus, with confirmed cases a total of 12 708, and starting from Jan. 1, recorded 91 asymptomatic cases.

The 14 Filipino domestic workers are all women aged, 29 to 46. Nine of them were confirmed cases of Covid-19, while five were asymptomatic. Six of the Filipino DWs stayed at Courtyard of Marriott Hotel in Shatin, four stayed at Rambler Hotel, one in Regala, one in Best Western Hotel, one in GrandCity, and from the USA report from Hong Kong did not identify the place where she lives.

From Filipino domestic workers coming from the Philippines, 12 arrived on Jan. 1, 2022, via Cathay Pacific of flight number CX903. One arrived on Jan. 2, via Philippine Air Asia flight number Z21264, and from the USA, she arrived on Jan. 4, via CX845 of Cathay Pacific.

Yesterday, Hong Kong Chief Executive Ms. Carrie Lam, reported the ban flights of eight countries including the Philippines (other countries that were banned are India, Pakistan, UK, US, Australia, Canada, and France).

A total of 219 cases tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus have been reported in the past 14 days (Dec. 22, 2021, to Jan. 4, 2022). Nine of them are epidemiologically linked with imported cases/possibly import-related cases, while the rest are imported cases.

Also, the DH invoked the Prevention and Control of Disease (Regulation of Cross-boundary Conveyances and Travellers) Regulation (Cap. 599H) to prohibit the landing of passenger flights in Hong Kong from the relevant original port of the following airlines from Jan. 5 to Jan. 18, 2022:

· Passenger flight (AC015) operated by Air Canada arriving in Hong Kong from Toronto, Canada on Jan. 3, 2022, had five passengers who tested positive upon arrival;

· Passenger flight (LH796) operated by Lufthansa German Airlines arriving in Hong Kong from Frankfurt, Germany on Jan. 3, 2022, had six passengers who tested positive upon arrival; and

· Passenger flight (CX845) operated by Cathay Pacific arriving in Hong Kong from New York, the United States on Jan. 4, 2022, had seven passengers who tested positive upon arrival.
