HK COVID-19 new cases drop to 6,260 with 10 deaths
The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health (DH) reported today (September 19) that they are investigating 6086 additional locally acquired cases that tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus, and 174 additional imported cases were reported that tested positive by rapid antigen tests (RATs).
Out of 174 imported cases, the positive cases arrived from 39 different countries, There were five countries with more than 10 positive cases, including the Philippines (other countries: The UK, USA, Indonesia, and Thailand).
Meanwhile, the HOSPITAL AUTHORITY (HA) announced during the media press conference late afternoon today, that there were 2,647 Patients at North Lantau Hospital Hong Kong Infection Control Centre, the HA Infectious Disease Centre and Asia World-Expo, and Hong Kong Public Hospitals.
The HA also reported that 10 deaths were recorded, including seven males and three females, aged from 55 to 93 years old. Only three of the dead individuals were vaccinated with at least three shots of the COVID vaccine. The 55-year-old male was not vaccinated and was bedridden for a long-term illness.
Hong Kong has recorded a total of 935 735 and 778 020 cases that have tested positive by nucleic acid tests and RATs respectively for the SARS-CoV-2 virus so far.
The spokesman said that COVID-19 vaccines are highly effective in preventing severe cases and deaths from the SARS-CoV-2 virus. They can provide effective protection to those vaccinated in preventing serious complications and even death after infection. People who have yet to receive vaccination, especially senior citizens, chronic patients, children, and other immunocompromised persons who face a higher chance of death after COVID-19 infection, should get vaccinated as early as possible for self-protection and to reduce the risk of falling seriously ill and death should they get infected.
