Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) together with the Department of Health in Hong Kong inoculated Overseas Filipino Workers with free influenza vaccine last Oct. 10.

This is the third year of services to the Filipino Community in Hong Kong. The Seasonal Influenza Vaccination program of the Hong Kong government commenced on Oct. 6, 2021.

On the first day of the three-day program, there were 150 recipients, 93% are ages 50 and above.  The next free flu vaccine is scheduled for Oct. 17 and 21.

Doctor Tam Yat Hung, a specialist in Public Health Medicine from Shoebill Health Care clinic started the program in collaboration with the POLO office three years ago under the program of the Department of Health of the Hong Kong government in a belief that as a primary care to the community, preventive protection to flu season is needed. The protection period of the vaccine covered nine months to one year which will prevent getting the flu.

Dr. Tam also assured that the flu vaccine has no complications with the Covid-19 vaccine, as both BioNTech and CoronaVac are compatible with the flu vaccine.

Those eligible under the government subsidy scheme are ages 50 and above, children below 12 years old, pregnant women, and also those with disabilities.

For those domestic workers who are not eligible for the government subsidy scheme, a discounted price of HK$200 would be the fee for the vaccine.
