POLO: Use online contract verification system for individual domestic worker employment contract

The Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) in Hong Kong implemented the online appointment system for individual contract verification for domestic workers.

As the Hong Kong Government is continuously enforcing social distancing measures, the office of the PHL Labor encourages individual domestic workers to use the online platform.

For the online appointment system for individual verification of standard employment contract that started on 17 April, there are different options to book to schedule an appointment.

Using a smartphone, computer, or tablet, and using any browser (Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Internet Explorer), domestic workers could access the POLO website (www.polo-hongkong.com) or search the link (www.hongkong,com/a_home.php). Simple instructions to choose the available date and time of domestic workers’ convenience will appear. They also need to fill up information on personal data and employment.

Assistant Labor Attache (ALA) Antonio Villafuerte reminded the Filipino community that POLO will only entertain walk-in applicants for domestic workers who are senior citizens. Also, ALA Villafuerte said that contract verification handled by employment agencies can also have contract verification of their applicants/clients at the POLO office.

“Using the online platform for domestic workers could save their precious time especially if their employers allowed them to process their documents on their day off only, especially Sundays (a day most of the domestic workers take their rest days”, ALA Villafuerte said.

Using the online platform for contract verification system, the  Filipino community minimizes the spread of the virus that adhering to the Hong Kong Government regulations on social distancing measures.

Ligaya Diez, a domestic worker with more than 5-employment contracts with her current employer,  said that she welcomed the new online system as this would save her time in queue, and the most important thing is they have documents to show to their employers that they have an appointment at the Philippine Consulate office.
