Stringent enforcement against bars/pubs and catering premises will continue: FEHD and Police

The spokesman for the Food and Environmental Hygiene department reminded parties concerned to remain vigilant and strictly comply with the requirements and directions under the Prevention and Control of Disease (Requirements and Directions) (Business and Premises) Regulation (Cap. 599F) (the Regulation), the Prevention and Control of Disease (Vaccine Pass) Regulation (Cap. 599L), etc., including the latest requirement on rapid antigen test (RAT) by customers, with a view to minimizing the transmission risk in the community.

A spokesman FEHD said today (June 20) that the FEHD and the Police continued to take stringent enforcement actions territory-wide against premises operators, staff, and customers in bars/pubs, other catering premises, and certain other premises that defy the anti-epidemic regulations, through its respective inspections and joint operations. Reiterating that there have been signs of epidemic rebound and multiple infection cases in certain bars/pubs and other catering premises recently, and it may be possible that among them, some operators and customers might not have complied with epidemic prevention regulations and restrictions.

Enforcement departments will proactively take stringent enforcement actions on an ongoing basis.  The Government urges premises operators and the public not to defy the law.

The spokesman said, “For the three weekends (i.e. May 21 to June 4) immediately following the re-opening of bars/pubs from May 19, there have been six bars with clusters of infection cases, involving hitherto a total of 368 persons in terms of their primary cases.”

Over the past three days (June 17 to 19), the enforcement figures of the FEHD and the Police are as follows:

Meanwhile, the total number of confirmed local cases today is 1,186 (tested with PCR, 435; tested with RAT, 751). While a total number of confirmed imported cases is 141 (tested with PCR, 114; tested with RAT 27).

Hong Kong has recorded 768 867 and 459 144 cases that have tested positive by nucleic acid tests and RATs respectively for the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

In addition, on June 20, a total of 9 183 death cases that had tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus during the fifth wave (since December 31, 2021) were recorded, with 9 105 and 75 deaths reported from the Hospital Authority and public mortuaries respectively as well as three deaths reported from the Chinese University of Hong Kong Medical Centre. Hong Kong has so far recorded a total of 9 396 death cases that have tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
