Kathleen Paton from Aklan, Phillippines wins Miss Eco International 2022, held in Egypt on Thursday.

The Aklanon beauty queen competed with 40 other candidates from around the globe. She won the Best Eco Video, which made her the first finalist entering the Top 21.

Paton then advanced to the Top 10, where she was asked about Water Pollution. “A lot of Filipinos don’t have access to clean drinking water and I believe it is a right for every single human being, especially to my Filipinos, to have access to clean water,” she said. “I aim to work with a company, to give out free water filtration systems to communities in the country.”

She was the last finalist to be called in the Top 5, during the final Question and Answer round, she was asked, “As a titleholder, you’re a public figure. Do you think it’s important to stay neutral on controversial social issues or to use your title to promote your own belief and why?”

Paton answered, “We are at the forefront of opinion and negativity every single day, especially in social media, I do believe as a leader and as someone very influential in society, we sometimes have to use our voice in a very neutral state of mind because we have a very influential position. But in doing so, we also need to use our voice to motivate other people to stand up for what is right, and I think that takes a lot of good moral compass.

Her court includes Belgium – 1st runner-up, USA – 2nd runner-up, Spain – 3rd runner-up, and Malaysia – 4th runner-up.

In the last four years, the Philippines was consistently placing in the top two of the beauty pageant, in 2018 Cynthia Thomalia won the title, Maureen Montagne followed in 2019 and placed 1st runner up. No pageant was held in 2020, and in 2021 Kelly Day placed 1st runner up.
