A departing Filipino passenger  was hospitalized on Friday morning  after collapsing due to an apparent heart attack while waiting for his flight to Japan at  the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

He was eventually declared dead at a hospital.

The Media Affairs Division identified the passenger as Elias Concepcion, 68, who fainted near the counter 47 at the departure area of NAIA-Terminal 1 at around 6:45 a.m. while waiting to board Narita-bound Japan Airlines flight JL-746, which was then set to leave in three hours.

A medical team from the Manila International Airport Authority arrived at the scene two minutes later to administer first aid.

MIAA medical officer Claro M. Isidro said cardiopulmonary resuscitation was administered to Concepcion, and was also  given shock treatment using an automated external defibrillator, and injected with adrenaline as part of the efforts to revive him.

The passenger was then rushed to San Juan de Dios Hospital in Pasay City.

Concepcion was declared dead by an attending physician at 7:30 am. Authorities notified his relatives.
