WITH new vessels expected to join its fleet, Genting Hong Kong is seeking to expand its market to the “premium lifestyle segment” by unveiling its BEATSHIP event, a “one of a kind party and DJ event experience taking place aboard Super Star Virgo.”

Andrew Li, Vice President, Lifestyle and F&B concepts of Genting Hong Kong, said BEATSHIP will allow the company to offer options on board its ships that will appeal to a broad range of guests.

On its maiden event, 600 guests attended the party, and on July 18, the number rose to 860 revelers.

Li said that for its August 8 event, they were expecting close to 1,000 party goers to sample the fun on BEATSHIP.

The event allows guests to “experience partying with the dramatic back drop of Hong Kong’s nighttime skyline behind them and dance the night away surrounded by the vastness of the high seas.”

Super Star Virgo, however, has more to offer for both of those who want to enjoy the luxury of a cruise ship and those who want to party in a different setting.

The overnight cruise has all the trappings that one could want on a ship – comfortable accommodations, and an array of entertainment and dining options.

Depending on one’s accommodations, one could find comfortable to luxurious appointments.

If the party scene is not for you, then you could choose to go to other entertainment spots.

Besides 935 cabins and passenger capacity of as many as 1,870, it has an Activity Centre, where activities and could be booked and games could be loaned; Galaxy of the Stars, which features live music, and could serve as a venue as a dance lounge or for serving cocktails; a private karaoke room; a straight video arcade for vide arcade games, and Wii and Xbox; and The Lido, which is a show lounge.

Also, 10 dining options await cruisers – including a Japanese restaurant, a poolside theme snacks bar, and an indoor international buffet restaurant, among others.

Fitness bluff and appearance-conscious passengers need not fret as Super Star Virgo has an exercise pool, an outdoor swimming pool, a jogging circuit, a universal gym, as well as a hairdressing and beauty salon.

And if those still do not appeal to you, cabins have wide flat screen TV, and a balcony where one could sip some coffee or tea and read while the ship sails.

Arguably, the hottest attraction of the cruise liner is the BEATSHIP event.

Li said Genting Hong Kong partnered with Sigma Productions to develop the concept, “which will feature the world’s top DJs for a lineup of unforgettable shows.”

The party, held in a kiddie poolside and converted during the night as a dance floor where partygoers are encouraged to wear their beach attire, and which featured pulsating music, ledge performers, and have fun to their heart’s content.

He added that the event is also meant as a preparation for the arrival of two new mega-cruise ships which Genting Hong Kong will take hold of in October 216, and late 2017.

These two new ships will be twice the size of Super Star Virgo.

“We are showing that we are moving with the times and simply responding to demand. The Hong Kong public is always looking for new experiences and we are offering just that,” Li told Hong Kong News in an email interview.

“After our first two events, BEATSHIP is already the talk of the town and our initial feedback has been overwhelming. We are introducing a new crowd to Star Cruises and the response from the public has been extremely positive – they can’t get enough of our parties and I can only see the BEATSHIP growing bigger and better,” he said.

To be able to experience BEATSHIP, a guest would have to pay $580 for the party ticket without accommodations up to $6,000 for two persons staying in one of the suites. All tickets include a barbecue dinner, late night snacks, and breakfast the next morning.
