Boyfriend gets Pinay out of jail
Thanks to her Chinese boyfriend, a Filipino woman accused of drug trafficking was temporarily released on bail by the High Court.
Deputy High Court Judge Wilson Chan on January 20 allowed Jonalyn P.H. to post a $2,000 bail although she had tried to flee from Hong Kong when she was first allowed to post bail by the Eastern Magistrates Courts.
“I can assure you, If you again violate your (bail conditions), you will be arrested and your bail revoked,” Chan told Jonalyn, a Macau resident.
The defendant was earlier caught with .6 grams of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu but was allowed to post bail by the Eastern Courts.
The prosecution admitted that the charge of drug trafficking filed against Jonalyn was only a “holding charge” meant to keep her in jail while the police investigated her case.
“It might be changed later to something less serious. So initially, we did not object to her bail application but there was this unfortunate event that led to her bail being revoked,” a government lawyer said.
“She made the mistake of trying to go to Macau,” he added.
Jonalyn said she only wanted to see her family and children who are in Macau when the police caught her again. She promised not to do it again and to surrender all her travel documents.
Her boyfriend from Tuen Mun also attended the hearing and promised the court that Jonalyn would attend her court hearings and not abscond. He was willing to post a $5,000 surety bond.
“As a surety, you are to ensure her attendance at all future court hearings. If she fails to attend, the surety bond will be confiscated,” the judge said.
