Chinese nabbed in NAIA for gun found in DVD player box
A Chinese national was prevented from boarding his flight by the Philippine National Police – Aviation Security Group (PNP-ASG) at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 following the discovery of a dismantled short firearm placed in the box of a DVD player in his belongings.
Supt. Alex Lim, Chief PNP Aviation Security Group in Terminal 1, identified the suspect as O. Chen, 29, Chinese national, who was barred from boarding a China Southern flight bound for Guangzhou, China.
According to Lim, Chen was intercepted by the PNP-ASG personnel after the latter entered the departure entrance and passed through the security x-ray machine and placed his carton box at 7:45 a.m. on Wednesday, July 5.
Lim said that when Ong’s carton box passed through the x-ray, the dismantled short firearm was discovered.
A personnel from the Office for Transportation Security (OTS) seized Chen’s baggage and opened it in the presence of the PNP-ASG personnel. The box yielded a DVD player, where the short firearm was placed.
Chen was brought to the PNP-ASG NCR office for investigation.
He told investigators that a person entrusted the package to him, but he did not know what it contained. The police arrested him.
The Chinese national is now detained at the PNP-ASG-NCR headquarters pending the filing of violation of R.A. 10591 or illegal possession of firearms and ammunition before the Pasay Prosecutor’s office.
