A 24-year-old visitor from mainland China died after a window fell on her this morning in Tsim Sha Tsui, according to Hong Kong’s public broadcasting service.

Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) reported that the incident happened at around 10:30 a.m. while the victim was walking along Nathan Road.

The window was believed to have fallen from the 16th floor of The Mira Hotel. A female cleaner who was suspected of having opened the window was arrested later by the police.

The victim was brought to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital where she died afterwards. The Mira Group, which owns the hotel, expressed its condolences to the victim’s family and promised to help in whatever way it can, RTHK said.

Under Hong Kong’s Summary Offenses Ordinance, the offense of dropping or allowing an object to fall from any building carries the penalty of six months imprisonment and a fine of $10,000.
