FDH falls to her death at airport

A Filipino domestic helper fell to her death at the Hong Kong international airport this morning (April 7).

A police spokesperson said the 27-year-old Filipino woman, surnamed Solomon, was found lying on the ground floor of Terminal 1 of the Chek Lap Kok international airport.

“The police received a report at around 7:43 a.m. that there was a woman lying on the ground in Terminal 1. She was brought to Princess Margaret Hospital, where she was certified dead,” the spokesman said in a phone interview.

“The initial investigation showed that there was nothing suspicious about her death. She is believed to have fallen from the bridge (on the second floor),” he added.

The police spokesperson also said they were not sure if the woman was leaving Hong Kong. He added that the cause of death would be confirmed by the post-mortem report or after an autopsy is conducted.

If confirmed that it was a suicide, Solomon’s death would be the fifth suicide of a Filipino domestic worker in Hong Kong this year. The police are still investigating the death of another domestic worker whose body was found under a bridge in Lohas Park last month.

Consul General Bernardita Catalla earlier expressed her concern about the string of suicides of Filipino domestic helpers this year, noting that three of them took their own life due to debts or financial problems. Consular officials said that there were only four Filipino suicides in Hong Kong for the whole of 2015.
