FDH found dead under Lohas Park bridge

A 47-year-old Filipino woman was found dead under a bridge in Lohas Park, Philippine Consulate General officials said.

Vice Consul Fatima Guzman-Quintin told Hong Kong News that the police are still trying to find out if the domestic worker killed herself.

“If the case was suicide, it would be the fifth suicide case of Filipinos in Hong Kong for this year. But the police are still investigating,” Guzman-Quintin said.

Attaché Hermogenes Cayabyab Jr., PCG-Assistance To Nationals (ATN) section officer, said the Filipino woman’s body was found on March 18, but was identified only on March 24, when her Hong Kong ID card was found.

“She fell from a height, and then she was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital,” he said.

Cayabyab said the PCG had contacted the victim’s parents in Leyte. The victim was single.

Consulate officials earlier expressed concern because the number of Filipino suicides in January – four- already matched the yearend total of four cases reported in 2015. In 2014, three Filipinos in Hong Kong took their life.

Consul General Bernardita Catalla revealed that three of the four Filipino suicides in January were related to financial problems.

“Three out of the four reported suicide cases were related to debts,” Catalla said.
