Owtel’s emergency assistance for distressed helpers
OWTEL is extending assistance to Filipino domestic helpers who were left stranded in Hong Kong after the tickets they purchased from a travel agency in World Wide House turned out to be unissued.
The scheme will see Owtel, the leading electronics retailer, facilitate the purchase of tickets by affected helpers so they could still fly home when they book flights with Cebu Pacific or with Cathay Pacific who had earlier offered to help.
David Chen, Owtel founder and CEO, said his heart goes out to the hardworking Filipino men and women who were looking forward to spend the holidays with their family back in the Philippines but found out their purchased tickets were not valid.
“It is heart-wrenching to know that these men and women would be unable to spend the holidays with their family because of this mess. Many of them work hard all-year round and are looking forward to their vacation only to be derailed by this unfortunate event and so we thought of a way to help them out and do our share in assisting the community,” Chen said.
Those who want to avail of this service may go to any Owtel store in World-Wide House and inquire from staff so they can stil spend Christmastime with loved ones back home.
