2 MTR trains collide near Central station

Two MTR trains collided near the Central station before dawn this morning, injuring at least one driver, local media reported.

An train bound for Central and another that was bound for Tsuen Wan collided during a test of the new signalling system at around 3 am.

Pictures of the incident showed the two trains were serverely damaged but there were no passengers involved since the MTR is closed to the public in the earlry morning hours.

The MTR said it was conducting an investigation into the accident.

It has also suspended rail services between Admiralty and Central stations on the Tsuen Wan line.

“Train service between Admiralty Station and Central Station on the Tsuen Wan Line is suspended. Passengers travelling between Admiralty Station and Central Station, please change to use Island Line,” the MTR said.

“Please consider using other transport or alternative MTR Lines. MTR staff are handling the situation. We apologise for any inconvenience caused,” it added.
