Hong Kong’s number of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases has breached the 5,000-mark after 13 new infections were recorded, health officials said Saturday.

There were nine imported cases according to Dr. Chuang Shuk-kwan from the Centre for Health Protection, with five of them returning from India.

Among the imported case is a 45-year-old Filipina who arrived in Hong Kong on Sept. 8. She was quarantined at Ramada Hong Kong Grand in Tsim Sha Tsui.

Two other imported cases were from India, and another one hailed from Ukraine.

Of the four local cases, Chuang said there were three without any discernible source of infection. One of them is an Indonesian domestic worker, aged 23, who lives in Villa Oceania, Ma On Shan with her employer.

Chuang said the helper stayed at home most of the time. But on her day off on Sept. 14, she went with two of her friends to Mong Kok, Sham Shui Po, and Tsim Sha Tsui to walk around.

The helper could not recall the places where the Indonesian worker visited, she added.

Another woman in Tuen Mun, aged 79, and a 28-year-old researcher at Hong Kong University also had unknown sources of infection.

Chuang said the researcher, who worked on data entry and genetic sequencing, did not deal with infectious samples of the coronavirus. She tested positive during the laboratory researchers’ weekly tests.

Six colleagues of the researcher were classified as close contacts. The colleague who shared a computer with her tested negative.

Hong Kong has recorded over 5,010 COVID-19 so far.
